1965 Lotus Cortina MK 1 Project PrivateCars - Green Bay - 40 views
This 1965 Lotus Cortina MK 1 shows under 20k miles and is a non-running project that has been in the same family for 42 years. Purchased by the seller’s father in 1975, the car was put into storage the following year after the seller collided with a signpost at the age of 19. It was removed from garage storage in December 2016 and is said to be one of 199 LHD MK 1 units exported to North America. Powered by a 1600cc Lotus twin cam inline-four mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, this example is being sold with a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
Filler has fallen out of an older lower left quarter panel dent repair, and damage from the 1976 accident can be seen on the grille, bumper, front valance, and radiator support. The radiator and hood were reportedly un-damaged. Minilite wheels are currently installed.
Rust is present in the floor of the trunk after an old battery froze and split open. Rust-through is evident under the spare tire, and other notable corrosion can be seen under the hood, rockers, wheel wells, crossmember under the front seats, on top of the strut mounts, and surrounding the accident damage.
Corrosion is evident on interior components, with additional photos in the gallery detailing the rear seats, headliner, and door panels. The odometer indicates 19,669 miles.
When new, the Lotus 1600cc twin-cam inline-four was quoted at 105 hp. It is paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox and has not been started since being parked in 1976.
Several images below show close-ups of the rockers, wheel wells, suspension components, and trunk.
